My friend here didn’t believe she had curly hair.
Her texture is looser—almost straight—which stands out from the tighter curls in the rest of her family.
What many people don’t realize is that curl patterns can be subtle, especially when hair hasn’t been properly cleansed, hydrated, or styled to enhance its natural form. Even in the chaos, His grace holds me steady.
This morning, driving home after daycare drop-off, I was reminded of just how vital it is that we extend grace to one another—just as God so freely extends grace to us. Life is hard. We never truly know the battles someone else is fighting.
As a single mother with both a toddler and a teenager, mornings aren’t always calm or elevated—they’re often chaotic. Just getting out the house is a victory. But when we finally get on the road and make it to that first destination, I try to remember: I might be the first face someone sees after their own stormy morning. I might be the moment they’ve been praying for—peace, rest, or simply a chance to gather themselves.
I know that feeling well. So today, and every day, I choose grace.

I’ll never forget this cut.
When we first started, I was very conservative with my shears — careful not to take too much. After all, she had spent most of her life growing her hair, and so much emotion was tied to it.
But then, mid-cut, she looked at me and said, “Go ahead — cut more.”
That moment stayed with me.
She wasn’t just letting go of hair — she was letting go of the version of herself that had been defined by it.
Choosing to move forward on her own terms. Choosing freedom. Choosing herself.
She cried.
Then she smiled.
And she said she loved it.
What a powerful reminder:
Growth isn’t always about holding on — sometimes it’s about letting go.
